Let’s Talk Baptisms

So, you are interested in baptism. It is a big step, but the good news is that it is only one step.  If you sense God is calling you to take the step, we are cheering for you. This page will help you understand what it means.

We choose baptism because of:

The example of Jesus

Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. But John tried to deter him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?”

Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.”Then John consented.

Matthew 3:13-15

The Command of Jesus

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. Matthew 28:18-19

The Pattern of New Testament Believers

Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. …Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day. Acts 2:38, 41

The Assurance of Obedience

We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did. 1 John 2:3-6

What does Baptism do?

It is a sign to ourselves and the world that we are now:

United to Christ

Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his. Romans 6:3-5

United to God’s family, the Church

For we were all baptized by one Spirit to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free. 1 Corinthians 12:13

So in Christ Jesus, you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. Galatians 3;26-27
